Getting Closer to the Birds and the Bees

I'm still laughing over the conversation I had with the girls at dinner this evening. Get a load of this.

Stinkerbell: Mom, do you have to dance to get married?

Zoe: No, you have to have someone stand in front of you and ask you lots of questions. Then they tell you that you can kiss.

Stinkerbell: Eeeew. I don't want the kiss. Mom, can I wipe the kiss off?

Me: No sweetie, that wouldn't be polite.

Stinkerbell: Well then, can I wipe it off when I get home?

Me: Only if no one sees you do it.

And I can't help but wonder, should I tell them about the horrid kiss from my wedding day?

All kidding aside, it's moments like these that I just want to bottle and preserve for the day when my kids are grown and gone, so I can relive them again and again. Kids don't have any idea how happy they make their parents, do they?

  6. I just to LOVE it when my baby girl did NOT like men of any kind.....even just tolerated daddy sometime....I thought, Oh this will serve us well! Ha. Now she turns 18 on Thursday (where did those years go????) and she has matured, but mainly likes guys because they are much less dramatic than girls.....she has had her heart broken once, sigh, and is much more careful, of which I am glad!
Your girls are so cute; enjoy their ages now; they just grow up way too fast! And they are so darned adorable!

  13. Your horrid kiss wasn't so bad. Our wedding was outside, and just as we were about to kiss... a bug flew in between us. I instinctively swatted at it, and people thought I was slapping my new husband! It was pretty bad.

  14. My daughter was six when the whole thing birds and bees came up. It went rather well. I wouldn't have ever thought to talk about it with her at that age but she started asking questions and I figured if I would answer whatever she asked.

She took it all in stride. But now (she's nearly 8)she mentions it every once in a while, like when she heard me talking about a friend whose having problems conceiving. She said, "If they can't have babies then maybe they need to practice the sex thing more."

    ROFLOL. I love that girl.

  17. I wasn't blogging when my boys were small--they are 15 and 16 now, but they had some of the best "ephinanys" when they were small. Once when my son was in 5th grade he came home and said someone got in trouble for having CORN in their locker. Corn? We discussed this, while I tried not to laugh. Turns out it was PORN- he not only heard wrong he didn't know what porn was so I had to figure out how to explain nicely. Then I freaked that someone brought porn to an elementary school!
