Tackle it Tuesday--Thing 1's Bedroom

This is Part 2 of cleaning out the girls' rooms while they're at school. If you missed Part 1, you can see it here. I actually remembered to snap a couple pictures of this one before I got started and, man, is it messy or what?

I apologize for the blurriness of the first few pictures, I try to take pictures without my flash, but then if I'm not super still the pictures come out blurry.

Here's the closet. Thing 1 tends to hide things when she's supposed to be picking up her room. She'll stuff things between her dresser and her wall and they're half sticking out. It's really pretty funny, and I have a hard time keeping a straight face when lecturing her about doing it right the first time. She's trying to be sneaky, but she's so bad at it.

Here's the blurry, tidy closet. The little brown bin on the floor is for her dirty clothes. This way, it's manageable for her to carry downstairs to sort her laundry every other day.

Would you look at that? Here's the little brat on her bed. She wouldn't move so I just kept snapping away. Peanut Head made this bed for her. As is everything he makes, it's sturdy. And heavy.

The theme of this room is bugs and flowers.  Thing 1's nickname is Bug, which is actually pretty ironic as she's afraid of bugs.  Even ants.  Every time she sees an ant, she insists it's a fire ant. Blasted Peanut Head and his back issues of National Geographic.  This girl doesn't need any encouraging, thank you very much.

Back to the room, I stenciled the flowers on the wall and I detested every minute of it. It was so tedious.  But once I started, I couldn't stop. For eight months. That's how long it took.

I made the quilt too. That only took three years to make. To be fair though, I spent most of that time not making it. And I made a million really bad mistakes. Things that real quilters can spot in a second. If you're a quilter, don't look too close.

I really need to take some more pictures to replace these up on the wall. Thing 1 was not pleased about me taking the pictures and her enthusiasm shines through. I'll get to that someday.

I found the nightstand at Down East Home & Outfitters. Can I just tell you, I love that store. They sell Pottery Barn and other fancy schmancy stores' irregulars and imperfect items. Really good quality stuff with scratches mostly. This nightstand was a PBK item with a scratch on the top. It's kid furniture though. We'll be adding many more to keep that one company, don't you think? Anyway, I got it half price because of that little scratch, and I didn't have to pay shipping because the store is in our town. Can't beat that.

The dresser I found at Target and I snapped it up when it went on sale last week.

My Mother-in-Law found this lamp for our guest room many years before this room came into being. As soon as she gave it to me, the idea for this room was born and I had to tell her that this would never sit in our guest room. How could it? It's a bug lamp. It's fate.

The lamp used to have a 3D ladybug popping off a spring from the lamp but somebody plucked it off.

The curtains, sheers and hardware are all PBK on sale. I like good stuff cheap.

Peanut Head made this toy box for Bug too. Have I mentioned before how handy he is?

NOTE:  I've been asked about the memo boards and how to make them.  I'll be making another sometime this month and posting step-by-step instructions if you want to check back for that.

  5. I forgot that this was a tackle I got so engrossed in her wonderful room. It looks so inviting and cozy. I LOVE her quilt. I've only made a few in my lifetime but none like that. It's gorgeous and I didn't make the picture bigger so I could pick it apart either lol.
    Blessings to you!

  9. I need some of your determination. 8 months for stencils? 3 years for a quilt? I give up and the things sit undone for years. Ask my husband. He'll tell you. LOL

And mine never puts things away either. He must get that from his mother?

And I love PBK. I wish we had a store like yours around!

    You did a great job!
