I Don't Know Why You Say Good-Bye, I Say Hello

Peanut Head and I have been passing like ships in the night this summer. Before the girls and I left on our trip, he was out of town on business for a week and returned a day before we left. We returned at 2:00 a.m. three weeks later and he was out the door on another trip by 7:00 a.m. To this I say, how convenient.

Yeah, convenient for him.  He knew I had the van loaded up with IKEA furniture that needed to be put together, and he bailed on me.  How convenient.

Sure, I could have waited for him to get home to do it, but dang it, I'm impatient.  And besides that, I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!

So, here's what I've been working on.  The first picture is just after I started assembling the filing cabinet. I have to say, I have a new appreciation for the quality and sturdiness of IKEA furniture.

Usually assembling furniture by myself is not a good idea because of my topology handicap, but amazingly enough, I managed just fine.  It probably helped that there were no words in the directions at all, just a stick guy with lots of pictures and "don't do it" symbols throughout, so I was able to follow the directions pretty easily.

 TA-DA!

I have a new filing cabinet now.  Um . . . . but the locking mechanism doesn't quite work.  Do you think I did something wrong?  Nah!  I'm going to go ahead and fill it up.  Peanut Head can fix it later, when it's convenient for him.  I just hope he doesn't have to take all my files out to do it.  That could make him grumpy.

Here is one of my Expedit bookcases before assembly.

And here they both are after.  Didn't I do a good job?  I'm so proud of myself.

One of the little cubbies had a two-drawer unit in it and I still have one more of those to put together.  I really should save the other one for Peanut Head though, because that was the hardest part.  I had to redo a lot of things and I would really like the opportunity to watch Peanut Head make those same mistakes.  But then he probably wouldn't because he's an engineer.  Sometimes I just can't win.

  1. You are awesome! I can't build anything. It scares me and so I don't even try. I love to feel organized. By the way your layouts of the kids are beautiful. Thing 2's 5 yr. pictures are so pretty. Great work. Love the recipe!
